• Fitness Instructor Course for members

     In conjunction with Waverley Fitness Academy we hope to run the following course during the off-season -

     

    Fitness Instructor Qualification for PFA Ireland Members           

    – Programme Overview

    Programme Title

    • ITEC Level 4 Certificate In Fitness Instruction, including soccer specific strength & fitness       

    Format/Numbers for Delivery

    • Duration approximately 12 days
    • Suggested format for delivery is one day per week (but it can be delivered at evenings, weekends or in block period/s)
    • Time frame for completion: suggested 4 months max
    • Minimum numbers needed for deliver: 14 participants
    • Method of delivery: Interactive and engaging combining theory and practice

     

    Certification

    • Accredited by ITEC, UK awarding authority. One of the gold standards for fitness qualifications in Ireland and abroad
    • Also mapped at level four in Irish framework of qualifications

     

    What Can Graduates Do On Completion

    On successful completion of the programme participants would be:

    • Qualified fitness and gym instructors to international standard
    • Able to design soccer specific fitness programmes
    • Able to design soccer specific fitness plans
    • Incorporate strength and conditioning methods into fitness plans for indoor & outdoor use
    • Design circuit training and group exercise for indoor & outdoor use
    • Advise players and clubs on fitness programmes for indoor & outdoor use
    • Qualified to instruct on free weights, CV equipment & machine weights

    Entry Requirements

    • None. No prior skills or knowledge required

           (Except for good command of the English language and good literacy skills)

     

    Assessment Criteria

    • Theory: 3 assignments & multiple choice question paper
    • Practical: Assessment of skills including gym equipment, circuits, group exercise and devising of fitness plans

    (All assessments conducted internally)

    • Anatomy and physiology for soccer fitness
    • Principles of exercise, fitness and health
    • Developing speed, strength & aerobic conditioning
    • Supporting soccer players who take part in exercise
    • Planning gym and field based exercise for soccer
    • Instructing gym and field based exercise for soccer
    • Circuit training and body resistance exercise for soccer
    • Strength and conditioning for soccer – introduction
    • Health & safety in fitness planning for soccer
    • Group/team exercise for indoor and outdoor use in soccer
    • Nutritional guidelines for soccer
    • Common sports injuries in soccer
    • Principles of exercise from childhood through to adult
    • Designing individual fitness plans for soccer players
    • Introduction to strength and conditioning
