Results of PFA Ireland Player Survey Regarding Scheduled Nations League Fixtures Against Israel

This week, PFA Ireland conducted a survey among League of Ireland players regarding the Republic of Ireland Men’s National Team’s scheduled UEFA Nations League fixtures against Israel later this year.

A total of 214 players from professional clubs across the League of Ireland Men’s Premier Division, the League of Ireland Women’s Premier Division, and the League of Ireland Men’s First Division took part in the survey. Their views, as key contributors to the Irish football landscape, offer valuable insight into sentiment within the domestic game.

Key Findings

1. Should Ireland fulfil the fixtures against Israel in the Nations League?

  • Yes: 37%
  • No: 63%

A clear majority of respondents expressed the view that the fixtures should not be fulfilled.

2. If the games do go ahead, would you attend the home leg in Dublin?

  • Yes: 34%
  • No: 66%

Two‑thirds of responding players stated they would not attend the match if it proceeds.

3. Reasons for not attending (multiple responses allowed):

  • Safety Concerns: 14%
  • Moral Reasons: 79%
  • Other: 8%

The predominant reason cited by players who would not attend was moral grounds, with a smaller number identifying safety concerns or other factors.
