Statement - Waterford v Shamrock Rovers - Alleged Racism
On Friday evening, following the conclusion of the League of Ireland Premier Division match between Waterford and Shamrock Rovers, PFA Ireland was informed—via our club delegate—of an incident involving alleged racist abuse directed at a Shamrock Rovers player.
We extend our full support to the player affected and welcome the strong show of solidarity from his teammates and colleagues in response to the incident.
PFA Ireland stands firmly against all forms of racism and discrimination. Such behaviour has no place in football or in society at large, and it must be consistently condemned.
We will await the outcome of any investigations into this matter and continue to urge any player who experiences racism or discrimination to report it to the appropriate authorities without delay.
