THE LATEST LEAGUE ACTION

There was a packed programme over the Bank Holiday period in both divisions in the Airtricity League.

In the Premier Division Dundalk return to the top of the table following victory over Drogheda United in the Louth derby on Friday and followed up with another success against Shamrock Rovers at Oriel Park on Monday.

In the First Division Derry City move to the top of the table after a 7-0 triumph over Salthill Devon and a 2-0 win over local rivals Finn Harps, while Waterford United suffered a 2-1 defeat in Longford and were held to a scoreless draw at home to Athlone Town.

Premier Division action on Monday

There was a full programme in the premier division on Monday; St Patrick's Athletic stretched their lead at the top of the table, Bohemians and UCD got back to winning ways, and Bray Wanderers secured their first win of the campaign.  Elsewhere, Shamrock Rovers and Sligo Rovers finished level.

Paul Byrne and Stuart Byrne scored the goals as Pat's beat Galway Untied at Terryland Park, and with Bray recording a a 3-2 win over Dundalk at Oriel Park Pat's extend their lead at the top of the Airtricity League to three points. Robbie Doyle scored an injury time winner for Bray.

Shamrock Rovers were held to a 1-1 draw; Gary Twigg gave the home side the lead on six minutes and former Tallaght frontman, Padraig Amond, grabbed the equaliser thirty minutes later.

Two goals either side of half time from Greg Bolger and Cirarn Kilduff gave UCD victory over Drogheda United and Bohemians scored twice just before the break to see off Sporting Fingal at Morton Stadium.  Paul Keegan and Gareth McGlynn scored to secure a welcome three points for Pat Fenlon's team.

FORMER LEAGUE PLAYERS IN TRAINING SQUAD

Former PFAI Player of the Year Keith Fahey has been named in the Ireland training squad.  Ireland manager, Giovanni Trapattoni, announced a squad that will take part in a training camp in Malahide from 16 to 21 May 2010.  The rest of the Ireland squad will meet up on 22 May ahead of the friendly games against Paraguay and Algeria. Fahey is one of five former League of Ireland players named in the squad.

The other former league players are Brian Murphy and Stephen Ward (ex-Bohemians) and David Meyler and Shane Long (ex-Cork City)

Action from the Airtricity League and the Setanta Sports Cup took place between Monday 19 April and Saturday 24 April.

Bohemians booked their place in the Setanta Sports Cup final following a 1-0 win over Linfield at Windsor Park.  Bohs will meet St Patrick's Athletic in the final on Saturday 15 May 2010.

A wonder strike from David McAllister put St Pat's back on top of the premier division with a 1-0 win as they inflicted the first league defeat on Sligo Rovers; Bohemians recorded a third consecutive league defeat as Dundalk beat the champions at Oriel Park, player/assistant manager Wayne Hastwell scored the only goal of the game and two goals from Anto Flood helped Galway United to a 3-1 success over Drogheda United at Terryland Park.

In the first division Waterford United returned to winning ways with a 2-0 win over Finn Harps, Brian Gartland scored three minutes into injury time to record victory over Cork City Foras Co-op at Turner's Cross and Shelbourne suffered their first defeat of the campaign as they lost 1-0 to Derry at the Brandywell.

Here are the latest results and action photographs from the the Airtricity League and Setanta Sports Cup over the past week.

Sporting Fingal go top of the premier division following a 2-1 win over Dundalk while Bohemians recorded their second defeat of the campaign as they were beaten 3-2 at Dalymount Park.

And in the first division Waterford United maintain top spot despite their first defeat of the season as Cathal O'Connor's scored the only goal of the game at Gortakeegan on Friday night.  Shelbourne are the only unbeaten side in the first division as they came from behind to record a 1-1 draw against Cork City Foras Co-op at Tolka Park and Derry put five past Wexford Youths in Ferrycarrig Park.

There was action in the Airtricity League and the Setanta Sports Cup.  Here are some of the pictures behind the headlines.

The game that grabbed the most attention was the Dublin derby between Shamrock Rovers and Bohemians at Tallaght Stadium on Friday 9 April.  A single goal from Billy Dennehy gave Rovers victory over their big rivals as Bohemians recorded their first league defeat of the campaign.

Bohemians also featured in the Setanta Sports Cup against Linfield and further action from the league saw Drogheda United in action against Bray Wanderers and Shamrock Rovers meeting with Sporting Fingal in Santry.

MATCH POSTPONEMENTS, MONDAY 29 MARCH 2010

The Setanta Sports Cup game betwen St Patrick's Athletic and Sligo Rovers was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch at Richmond Park.

The Airtricity League game at the Carlisle Grounds between Bray Wanderers and Bohemians, and the Leinster Senior Cup tie Shamrock Rovers v Shelbourne, at Tallaght Stadium, also fell foul of the unseasonal weather on Monday.
