The PFAI Players’ Player of the Year Awards Banquet is an annual event and it is the biggest night of the football calendar as players, past and present, members of the football industry and the media gather to pay tribute to the League of Ireland elite players who are honoured by their fellow professionals which is the ultimate tribute for any player.

Season 2009 marks the 30th annual event and former winners include former Ireland international legend Paul McGrath. Players won have won the award more than once include current League of Ireland  managers Paul Doolin of Cork City and Bohemians' Pat Fenlon, as well as current Bohs players, Glen Crowe and Jason Byrne.  This season sees the introduction of a new award - Irish Overseas Player of the Year.  This award will be presented to an Irish player who plys his trade outside the League of Ireland during the calendar year of 2009.

The Awards ceremony is also a time where we pay tribute to the rising stars with the Young Player of the Year award, First Division Player of the Year award and the Special Merit Award. Also the Premier Division and First Division Teams of the Year are unveiled.
